Day 90 - Minneapolis from the Witch's Hat

MPLS from the Witch's HatI returned to the Witch's Hat Water Tower today because today is the one and only day this year that it is open to the general public. The tower is only open the first Friday after Memorial day during the neighborhood ice cream social at the Pratt School. I arrived shortly after 5:00 pm and to my surprise the line to go up to the observation deck was rather short (this was not the case about an hour later). The steps up to the deck are quite narrow and it gets a little tight when there are people heading down while others are making their way up. Once you make it to the top you are presented with spectacular views of the Prospect Park neighborhood as well as the downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis skylines.

Day 88 - Ramsey County Poor Farm Barn

Ramsey County Poor Farm BarnTonight I had a meeting at church so I thought this would be a great time to stop and take a picture of the old Barn on White Bear Ave in Maplewood. This is the area where the Ramsey County Fair takes place and during Halloween it is transformed into Ramsey County Fright Farm. Anyway, as I was walking around the building I noticed there was a National Registry of Historic Places plaque posted on one of the walls. This barn was actually the Ramsey County Poor Farm Barn, it was built in 1918 and served as home and work for the indigent in Ramsey County.

There were a lot of people fishing and hanging out in the park (Tony Schmidt/Lake Johanna Park) so I decided to stop and take a few pictures of the scenery. While dad was fishing, this little boy and his brother (not pictured) were having a great time exploring the dock.
