Waiting in the lock chamber at Mississippi River Lock and Dam #1. When the water in the chamber reaches the level of the upperpool, the upstream miter gates open allowing the boats to travel through.

All photographs are there to remind us of what we forget. In this -- as in other ways -- they are the opposite of paintings. Paintings record what the painter remembers.
